History of the Football World Cup.
In the early 1800’s football as we recognize it today was played in English public schools and universities. The game soon spread throughout the world.
In 1904, the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) was formed. It’s aim was to govern the game and the initial members were France, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
Other countries joined in time. England joined FIFA in 1905. By 1930 FIFA had 41 members, post 2000 it has 204 at last count.
